A motorcycle/deer collision injured two people seriously. The accident happened around 9:30 Sunday night on north shore drive and country road 4 near Green Lake. 3 motorcycles were headed east when the deer popped out, and a cycle with two people on it collided with the deer. The male driver, a 23 year old from Spicer was airlifted to St. Cloud. The 23 year old female passenger from Atwater was taken to Rice Hospital.
A crash Sunday night around 11:30 injured one person. It happened on County Road 5, just south of the County Road 27 intersection northwest of Willmar. The driver reported hitting cattle, causing major damage to the SUV. The driver, from Pharr, Texas, and 3 kids were not hurt. The man’s wife suffered minor injuries.
An accident Friday injured a man near Herman. The rollover happened on State highway 9 and 105th st. The vehicle went into a corn field where it rolled. The driver, 18 year old Andy Busch suffered no life threatening injuries.
39 year old Gilberto Guzman Diaz of Willmar had his conviction upheld by the Minnesota court of Appeals. Diaz was convicted by a jury in Willmar of first degree criminal sexual
conduct. Diaz had said he thought that he was denied a complete defense and had ineffective counsel. He was found guilty in April of last year and sentenced to 172 months
in prison. He is serving his sentence at the Facility in Moose Lake.
People from all over Minnesota and beyond made their way to Bird Island yesterday to have a picture taken with one of the most recognized trophies in the country, the NHL Stanley Cup.
A 3 block long line of people that started around 9:30 yesterday morning Included everything from infants, some of whom were placed in the cup, to grandparents …..Donations made by those who got to pose with the cup went to the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation. The Cup visiting Bird Island was made possible by Bird Island native Jason Serbus, the head athletic trainer for the NHL champion Washington Capitals.
