A tractor fire was reported yesterday afternoon shortly before three on 240th…street the Litchfield Fire Department was called to put the blaze out. The tractor, valued at $15,000.00, was a total loss.

An accident in Douglas County at county road 82 east and Smith Lake road injured 5 people. A car driven by John Host of Browerville turned left in front of a car driven by
Kelsey Bender. There was heavy damage to both cars. Severity of the injuries to the 5 people were not reported.

An accident on the county road 40 ramp to 1-94 in Douglas County injured 40 year old Glenn Frisell of Alexandria. He was hit by a vehicle driven by 57 year old Renee Retzlaff New Ulm. Retzlaff had pulled out from a stop sign and into the truck driven by Frisell. She was not injured. Frisell was taken to the Douglas County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office reported a 2 vehicle crash Wednesday around noon, north of Olivia. Vehicles driven by 39 year old Lawrence Weiss of Olivia and 34 year old Sean Bauman of Olivia collided at an uncontrolled rural intersection. A passenger, 43 year old Stephanie Weiss was taken to the Olivia Hospital with injuries.

An Independent Minnesota House Candidate is facing criticism for using a racial slur in a campaign video. Kyle Greene, who is running for the seat held by Dean Urdahl of Grove city, said in a Facebook page video that he wants to be your “State Representative, your public servant and your “N”. Greene, an organic farmer who lives near Grove city, is not endorsed by any party or major organization.


Work continues on highway 71 north of Willmar up to state highway 9. Sealing will begin September 1 ith weather permitting and the project hopefully will be done by the 12th. Rainy weather has delayed the project throughout the summer. Crews will work through Labor Day week-end. All intersections should be open by noon today. (Friday 8/31)

Work on highway 71 from the junction of state highway 9, to highway 55 at Belgrade will see work begin on Tuesday the 4th with traffic being reduced to one lane. A pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone. A width restriction will also be in place with a 12 foot wide limit. That project hopefully will be done within 3 weeks.

Work on highway 23 from the split north of Willmar, to county road 31 east of New London begins Tuesday. North and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and you should plan for short delays. A 12 foot width restriction will be in place also. The project should be done October 26th weather permitting.

Willmar Police and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s office remind you to keep things locked up. Thefts have been reported in the past week-including a pop up camper in Willmar, a lineman bag with $4000.00 worth of tools in it from the New London area, and the large gum ball machine in the lobby of Perkins Restaurant!

A rear end crash east of Starbuck on highway 28 injured 57 year old Nan Hagerty of Starbuck. She was waiting to make a left turn when she was rear ended by 60 year old Cartherine Lein of Starbuck. Hagerty’s car was pushed into the other lane where it was also hit by 40 year old Gene Stark of Glenwood. Hagerty was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.

u.S. Highway 29 north of Benson was closed late yesterday afternoon just after 4pm. A detour was set up due to power lines hanging over the highway.
