County road 18 north of Brooten will be closed for two weeks for culvert work. Work got started yesterday, and a detour has been set up. For more info contact the Stearns County Highway Department.P

Grant money is available for those looking for funding for projects in the area to explore new ways to conserve natural resources, enhance farm -profitability, energy efficiency and improving rural life. If you’re a gardener, the University of Minnesota Extension is looking for a Master Gardener volunteer in Kandiyohi County. Those selected for the program begin an internship January 11th next year that starts with the Master Gardener Core Course that can be done on-line or at the U of M Landscape Arboretum. The Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Willmar Economic Development Commission will host an informational meeting regarding International Trade and the Impact of Tariffs. Suzanne Cormie, acting Consul General of Canada, and Jeff Phillips, International Trade Manager for the MN Dept. of Agriculture are schedule to speak. The event is Thursday the 20th at 7 am, beginning with a breakfast, at the Conference
Center in Willmar. RSVPs for this event, open to the public, should be made by contacting the Chamber office in Willmar by Sept. 18th

The Southwest Minnesota Arts Council is offering free in person grant …. information sessions this fall. There’ll be an overview of all grant programs for organizations, schools and individuals about the process as well as a chance to have questions answered. A session in Willmar will be held on October 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 that night at the Barn Theatre in 4th Street downtown.

 

A high speed chase has landed 29 year old Trent Lustfield in jail in Swift County. The chase began Saturday night around 9:45 in Benson with Lustfield going through stop lights and eventually through Swift Falls, Degraff and back to Benson with speeds up to 100 mph. The chase was called off as he approached Benson due to safety concerns. After he crashed into a garage Lustfield took off running, then got back into his car, hit a parked car, drove through yards & a parking lot before rolling the vehicle near 17th Ave. north and Atlantic Ave. He had to be tazed to be removed from the vehicle. He also threatened hospital staff who were treating him for injuries. Bail was set and Lustfield is facing numerous charges.

An accident yesterday morning around 7:00 injured 65 year old Larry Prentice of Hawick. He rolled his pickup on 165th Ave. NE.

An informational open house will be held in Sunburg tomorrow from 4-6 pm at the Sunburg Community Center. The public will be able to find out more about the county road 40 reconstruction that’ll take place from County road 7 to County road 1.

 

Saturday night around 10:30 the Meeker County Sheriffs Department responding to a driving complaint on highway 12. A deputy pulled over and arrested the driver, Roberto Pevado, age 18 of Litchfield for not having a license or insurance. Also arrested was 20 year old Jaime Santos of Willmar for drugs and having a false I.D.

A small city grant from the Department of Economics and employment in Minnesota will be helping the town of Clarkfields residents. Clarkfield scored near the top this year in the annual distribution of Small Cities Development Program grants to help rehabilitate housing for low to moderate income people.

Sunday afternoon round 1:15 the Meeker County Sheriffs office got a report of a burglary in progress on county road 24 in Dassel. A witness confronted two suspects at the home and got a license plate number when they took off. Deputies found the vehicle at a home in Grove City on highway 12. 32 year old Kalie Nelson of Litchfield was arrested for burglary and controlled substance violation. Her juvenile accomplice was released to family members. Then Sunday night a follow up at a Litchfield home produced items from the burglary and other stolen items. A man there, 39 year old Patrick Goodwin of West St. Paul was arrested for giving false information along with having 2 outstanding warrants against him. The investigation is ongoing.
