Wright County residents are invited to an open house Wednesday October 10th regarding the discovery of emerald ash borer in Wright County. The find was confirmed in Clearwater in September. Minnesota is highly susceptible to destruction caused by the insect with a billion ash trees-more than any other state in the nation. The open house will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 at the Lions building in Lions Park. For more information, log on at mda.state.mn.us/eab.

This week is Minnesota Manufacturing week, an annual event that celebrates one of the state’s most important industries. Manufacturers employ more than 326,000 people in Minnesota, roughly one out of every nine jobs. Governor Mark Dayton recently signed a proclamation, noting that workers in the sector took home $21 billion in wages last year.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Rural Finance Authority reminds beginning farmers to apply by November 1st for the tax credit for the sale or lease of land, equipment, machinery and livestock. Three levels of credits are available. Info on the tax credit, available first come first serve, can be found at mda.state.mn.us/bftc.

A reminder that the Kandiyohi County Landfill north of Willmar will be closed next Monday for Columbus Day. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday from 8-4. For a schedule of
holidays the landfill is closed and other questions, call 354-2707.

With most of the work done, people in the Glenwood area are invited to the “Street Complete” celebration on Friday October 5th• A reception will begin at 11 am with a program, ribbon cutting, a grand prize drawing, photo’s and a parade on the schedule, all wrapping up by 1 pm. DOT commissioner Charlie Zell will be on hand along with other dignitaries. The Minnewaska Area High School band will perform as well.

Early last Saturday morning the Meeker County Sheriff’s office got a report of an assault and aggravated robbery at a home. The victim said that a suspect had pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger. The gun did not fire. Suspects then demanded personal items from the victim. Last week-end, multiple search warrants were executed at a home on 580th Avenue. The victim’s items were found, along with drug items and a stolen vehicle. A number of arrests were made, including 49 year old Carmin Hedke-Kaffar of rural Grove City, Scott Mooney of rural Grove City, Dawn Karnik, age 30 of Eden Valley, 29 year old Tyler Kretsch-a homeless man, 20 year old Tre Ertl of Litchfield, and 33 year old Mike Patzvold of Litchfield. The investigation continues and more arrests are expected to be made.

The Stearns County communications center got a call last Saturday of two black lab dogs found dead from gunshot wounds in the Lovell Lake Wildlife Protection area. They were taken to the U of M for necropsy. Also found were skeletal remains of 2 other dogs and a cat. Stearns County officials said that if anyone can claim the 2 dogs or has any information to contact them.
