21 year old Lateef Mahaffey off Willmar was in court last Friday in Willmar on ten felony charges ranging from burglary and assault to robbery, theft and damage to property. Mahaffey was involved in the armed robbery of three people who were threatened with a knife during a robbery in Kandiyohi last July. Mahaffey, one of three suspects in the case, has had multiple prior convictions on various charges in the past.

An accident on highway 29 near Carlos injured one person Saturday night around 8:45. A car driven by Mike Allen off Alexandria went off the highway, rolled and hit a tree. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Alexandria Hospital.

The Willmar Lakes area Chamber will host a candidate forum tomorrow at the conference center in gallery 7. Mayoral candidates Marv Calvin and Steve Peppin, along with Ward 2
candidates Vicki Davis and Christina Nelson will be there. The event begins with lunch at 11 :30 followed by the candidates. The cost, $15.00 includes lunch. Reservations must be made by contacting the Willmar Lakes area chamber.

 

The Willmar City Council meets tonight at 7:00 in the board room of the Health and Human Services Building. There’ll be an update on the Christmas lights and plans for the upcoming season. Also a closed meeting to discuss the sale of property the city owns. At 5 pm the council has a workshop to talk about sidewalk snow removal, labor relations and more.

The Kandiyohi County Commissioners meet Tuesday at the Health and Human Services Building, beginning as the human services committee at 9, and the board meeting a ten. The agenda includes the 2019 budget for the Glacial Lakes Sanitary Sewer and Water District. Also action to enter into county based purchasing for Minnesota Care services and Medicaid and joining the Prime West Health Consortium.

The new hire would be responsible for creating and managing programs and projects that meet the goals and objectives of the Olivia Ma\’ Street program district revitalization.
