November is the month for giving. Please consider donating to the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter either through our website (, sending it in the mail (P.O. Box 709 Willmar 56201) or the two online giving platforms we are working with.

Thursday November 15th is Give to the Max/GiveMN Day.
Then on Tuesday November 27th is Giving Tuesday. As a non-profit a majority of our funding comes through wonderful donors like you. To keep the shelter open for the over 1850 animals that enter the shelter we need to budget $375,000. 00 for the expenses. We must pay employees, utilities (heat, air, electricity, water) medical care and for food. We receive funding from Kandiyohi County, Meeker County, the City of Willmar and from other communities we contract with to house their strays and we are very thankful for their support. Our Board of Directors hold fundraisers. We have a membership program and a monthly giving program. Again, much of our funding comes from donors. So, please consider a gift this holiday season to the animal shelter. We are very grateful for your support.

On Friday, November 9th we will be at the Willmar Location from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Then on Saturday November 10th from 12- 4:00 we will be at the Willmar Location and if we can
get enough volunteers we will be at the Waite Park location on Saturday as well. Just so you know, the two PetSmart stores on average adopt out 10 felines each week for our shelter. If you happen to shop there, please tell them thank you! This is a wonderful partnership for us.

Wednesday, November 21st is the  Bagging for Tips event at the Willmar Cub Foods store in Willmar. Get a team together. We need folks to help from 10 a.m.-6:00 p.m. We typically do 2-hour shifts. If you can’t help for that long of a time period, we will work with you. This event not only brings in needed funding for the shelter, but it raises awareness of who we are and what we do. Econo Foods in Litchfield is now known as Family Fare.

Hello Hawk Creek Friends-
We are launching a new adventure here at the shelter. Clothing, totes and hats are one of those things that can be quite tricky to make sure to have all sizes and items available. So we have launched an online store. This store will only be open to November 26th because we want items to arrive by Christmas time if you’d like to purchase gifts.
We will periodically have our store open for longer periods of time and also switch up “logos” and items to keep if fun and fresh!

Volunteer Training for New Shelter Volunteers:
Tuesday Nov. 6 th at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday Nov. 13 th at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday Nov. 24 th at 11:00 p.m.

We can always use volunteers to help at the shelter or with offsite events. Trainings are
approximately 45-60 mins long. Trainings are listed above and we need to have volunteers
leave at the end of the training if we are closing. You only need to attend one training. Families are encouraged to participate. There is a form that needs to be filled out at shelter or online at Kids that are 12 and older can volunteer without an adult present, but their time is limited to 2 hours per visit. All trainings are held at the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter. You do not need to pre-register. Persons 17 years of age under must have a parent or guardian sign the form. Children 11 under need to be accompanied by an adult.
