The Minnesota Dept. of Transportation is installing delineator posts along all unlighted 4 lane rural highways. The posts will aid in traveler safety at night and in bad weather conditions. The posts, with a square shaped reflector on top will help mark the separation of the road and surrounding land. The posts, a tenth of a mile part will be installed on over 1300 miles of Minnesota roads totaling mover 26,000 posts. The costs is around a thousand dollars a mile. Locally, posts will be put in on highway 71 around Willmar, the 4 lane parts of highway 23 from Willmar to Paynesville. Also along areas of highway 23 around Granite Falls and Marshall. MnDOT calls it a low cost high safety benefit to drivers.

Results of a study were released by the Minnesota State University system, which includes 30 state colleges and 7 state universities. The numbers show that Ridgewater College’s estimated contribution to the regional economy is $170,200,331 dollars along with 1456 jobs. The study included various spending, pay, benefits, capital projects and
more. Tax revenues generated by Ridgewater came to about 9.76 million
dollars for state and local government. Ridgewater College President Craig Johnson said that while the top priority is the success of students and alumni, the college plays a vital role in local and state economies.

Sibley state park, one of the top destinations in central Minnesota and around the state, will be closed for a special hunt November 24th and 25th. The park has a high number of deer and hunters that have special permits will be able to use firearms, muzzle loader or archery. The deadline has passed to apply for the permit that is needed. Special hunts are taking place at other state parks as well. Go to the DNR website to see which parks have special hunts and when they take place.

 

45 year old Jennifer Wendt of Willmar was in court yesterday in Willmar for meth possession. Bail was set at $175,000.00 unconditional and $75,000.00 with conditions. Wendt was arrested in New London Monday at a home in the 300 block of 4th. Avenue SE. Police found over 66 grams of meth. Wendt is charged with 3 felonies and is being held at the Kandiyohi County Jail with another court date later this month coming up.

A car-deer collision last night injured 24 year old Randy Juell of Redwood Falls. The accident happened around 5:15 pm near Paynesville on Highway 23. A passenger, Andrea Ochs was not hurt.

3 bison calves escaped from their pen Tuesday night south of Willmar and one of them was hit by a vehicle around 6 pm on county road 5 near 120th Ave. SW. The injured bison calf had to be put down. No information was available on the driver of the car.

The Washington Monthly Magazine has rated Ridgewater College as the top public college for their Auto Mechanics Program. The magazine rates two and four year colleges and universities, and this is their first time rating non-degree certificates and diplomas. The top rated private school in auto mechanics was Dunwoody in Minneapolis.
