Tens of thousands of pounds of ground turkey products are being recalled. Jennie-O Turkey says that four of its raw ground turkey products that were produced in early September may be associated with a salmonella outbreak. The USDA is investigating over 160 cases of illness in 35 states that could be related to the Jennie-O products. Consumers are being asked to avoid products with the establishment number P-190 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s office was called to Rice Hospital Saturday just before ten after a person with a hunting related accident had been taken there.  A group of small game hunters had been out In Fahlun Township in the 8900 block of 53 street northeast. 22 year old Mitch Malik of rural Hector had been hit in the leg by a small caliber rifle. He was treated for the non-life threatening injury. The accident is under investigation.

The DNR reminds you that this Friday is “free park Friday”, meaning you do not need a vehicle sticker to get in to any of Minnesota’s state parks. There are some state parks that will be closed this Saturday and Sunday for special deer hunts, including Sibley State Park west of New London. An overabundance of deer necessitated the hunts, and outdoors men that have the proper license will be able to use their bows, as well as shotgun slug guns and muzzle loaders. You’re reminded to check ahead of time if you are visiting any of the state parks to see if and when a special deer hunt may be taking place.

Last week the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was called to a possible burglary at the Delux Liquor Store in St. Augusta. A glass door had been smashed in. No one was found at the scene and evidence was collected. Anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity the night of November 13th in the 14th should contact the authorities.

 

An accident in northern Minnesota Friday morning injured a man from Atwater. Dave Gatzmeyer was headed north of Remer on highway 6 when another vehicle headed south went over the line and sideswiped Gatzmeyer. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Willmar police report that a woman was asked to give a clean urine sample by a stranger for a drug test. The incident happened last Thursday afternoon on Pacific Avenue SW. in Willmar. She refused and he left in a black car. She did not know the man and police ask that you contact them if approached by anyone making such a unique request!!

Firemen from Osakis and Alexandria were called out to a house fire last Friday in Nelson. The fire was in the kitchen area and the home received extensive damage.  The fire was called in by 49 year old Tracy Oberg-there were no injuries to anyone living in the home. An investigation is underway.

The Willmar city council meets today for a work session at five, then a council meeting at seven tonight. The meetings will be in the board room at the Health and Human services building. Annexation will be discussed along with talk about the Willmar Wye agreements for the railroad bypass project.

 

37 year old -Don Braaten of Echo was arrested after an investigation by the Brown/Lyon/Redwood/Renvilie drug task force. Agents saw Braaten in Granite Falls getting into a car. He was followed to Sacred Heart where an arrest was made without incident. Braaten had a pistol and ammo in the vehicle, also meth and drug paraphernalia. He is charged with five felonies in addition to a previous felony for his arrest out of Lyon County involving another violation.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office has released information concerning Ray Reynolds, a level 3 sex offender. A community notification meeting will be held Tuesday night at 6 pm in the Meeker County Courthouse. Reynolds is living in Meeker County at a home on 570th avenue.

25 year old Luis Dominguez of Willmar was sentenced last Friday to 3 years in prison for threatening his father’s landlord with a shotgun last August. A jury convicted Dominguez on two felony charges. Willmar police report a 23 year old being arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and fifth degree assault. The arrest comes from an incident last Thursday night on 3rd street SE in Willmar. Another person was arrested in the 400 block of 15th Avenue SW after police got a call of a person with a gun. The suspect is facing charges of motor vehicle theft, attempted kidnapping, burglary, theft, damage to property, an order of protection violation and various counts of assault.
