The Kandiyohi County Commissioners meeting this morning with the Human services committee at nine and the board meeting at ten. Proposed county park fees and policies for 2019 will be discussed, along with an update on the capital highway improvement plan from Public Works Director Mel Odens and Lindsey Bruer of MNDOT. The Commissioners will get a firsthand look at recent upgrades at the Kandiyohi County Jail this afternoon. The surveillance system and electronic door lock system both were recently upgraded.
The Buffalo Lake Health Care Center will be getting a $1.2 million dollar loan from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, one of 60 such loans given to improve rural health care. The money will be used to add four private rooms, a new entrance, office space, a therapy center and a community room. The Health care center currently is a 49 bed skilled nursing home and 16 unit assisted-living center.

The public meeting will be held at 6 pm. This is NOT a forum to appeal market value or individual proposed property tax amount, but again, is a meeting to talk about the 2019 county budget. 30 year old Jon Christianson of Litchfield was sentenced in Meeker County Court yesterday to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of being a felon in possession or ammunition. Other charges were dropped in a plea agreement. Police had responded to a domestic assault call in October where Christianson was arrested. He has previous assault convictions in 3 other counties dating back to 2013.
Sunday around 4:15 pm the Swift County Sheriff’s Office was called to a one vehicle accident in Kerkhoven that took the like of 48 year old Shane Broten of Willmar. He was eastbound on highway 12, went off the road and airborne into the concrete base of the car wash and then spun into the side of the building. Broten had to be extricated from the vehicle and died from his injuries at Rice Hospital. Alcohol and drugs were suspected to be involved. The accident continues to be investigated.
