This past Monday the BLR drug task force arrested two people in Redwood Falls on several felony level charges involving meth, fleeing police and firearms possession. 35 year old Jodi Simon and 31 year old Levi Zinniel of New Ulm were arrested and charged with controlled substance crimes in the first and second degree, and with being felons in possession of firearms. Both were also wanted on outstanding felony level warrants from Brown


Harold and Sharon Peterson of the Murdock area received the Honorary Life Membership award at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federations 100th annual meeting held recently. They were selected for their dedicated service to county, community and Minnesota Agriculture. Harold was first elected Chippewa County Farm Bureau President back in 1967, then served on a number of boards and committees, and was a founding member of the Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Cooperative. Sharon has also served as Chippewa County Farm Bureau president and on the AFBF sugar committee. The couple resides on their century farm, which is still family run.

The DNR reminds you that today is “free park Friday”, meaning you do not need a vehicle sticker to get in to any of Minnesota’s state parks. There are some state parks that will be closed this Saturday and Sunday for special deer hunts, including Sibley State Park west of New London. An overabundance of deer necessitated the hunts, and outdoors men that have the proper license will be able to use their bows, as well as shotgun slug guns and muzzle-loaders. You’re reminded to check ahead of time if you are visiting any of the state
parks to see if and when a special deer hunt may be taking place.


New London fire and ambulance crews were called out to a Thanksgiving morning house fire in the 6000 block of 191 st Ave. NE. Further information was not available.

35 year old Caleb Blue, suspected of murdering David Medallin Jr. in October was in court in Willmar Wednesday. He did not enter a plea. An omnibus hearing has been set for January 31 st. The judge did grant a motion by the state to request a DNA sample from Blue.

Officials in Montevideo report that Police Chief Adam Christopher has had a temporary restraining order place against him. An 18 year old woman is claiming that she received hundreds of texts from him that started out casual and turned sexual in nature. She was 17 when the texting started. A hearing will be held next Wednesday in Chippewa County District court.The restraining order is in place through November of 2020 unless it is
changed in court.


29 year old Trent Lustfield of Benson pleaded guilty Wednesday to two felony counts of fleeing police in a vehicle. Other charges were dropped. He was involved in a high speed chase this past September in the Benson and Degraff area. Lustfield was given a year and 7 months at the St. Cloud correctional facility.

A man charged with felony kidnapping and false imprisonment has been found incompetent to stand trial. 74 year old Jesus Diaz allegedly tried to pull a ten year old girl into the Target Store men’s room in Willmar last July. With the criminal case against him suspended, Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services will handle commitment proceedings.

A crash involving 3 vehicles on highway 71 near 60th Ave. SE injured 5 people Wednesday around 5:30 pm. A vehicle driven by 34 year old John Broda of Zimmerman was rear ended by a vehicle driven by 23 year old Juan Ruiz of Willmar. The Broda vehicle was pushed into the northbound lane where it collided with a car driven by 19 year old Mike Curry of Olivia. Curry and passengers Lukaz Curry, Dustin Schmidt of Renville, Alexandra Dworshak of Redwood Falls were injured, as was Broda. Police say distracted driving was the probable cause of the rear end accident.
