51 year old Lori Jean Harris Gafkjen of Brooten, had her court date re-scheduled due to a scheduling conflict. The new court date will be December 12th for Gafkjen, who is facing 3 felony counts of aiding an offender. She is accused of assisted Caleb Blue, who is charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of David Medallin Jr.
A two vehicle accident injured 2 people yesterday afternoon shortly after 1:30. A car driven by 18 year old Camryn Banaka of Staples crossed the center line and hit a vehicle driven by 34 year old Jaime Aubart of Belgrade. Banaka and a passenger were taken to the Paynesville hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was called to a one vehicle accident north of Roseland about 3 and a half miles. 20 year old Jose Lopez Rosales swerved to miss a deer and wound up rolling into a drainage ditch near 60th St. SW and 142 Ave. SW. Rosales and a passenger were taken to Rice Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The former administrator of Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, Tamara Borstad, entered a guilty plea Monday to felony theft. She was accused of using the nursing home’s credit cards and taking cash from the safe to use for gambling. A 150 day jail sentence was stayed, and she’ll be on 10 years of probation and pay restitution over more than $40,000.00.
Kandiyohi County’s Truth in Taxation annual meeting will be Thursday night at 6:00 in the Health and Human services building’s board room. The public will have a chance to comment and ask questions about the county’s proposed budget for 2019. This meeting is only about the county budget for next year, and not about personal taxes.
This past Tuesday morning at 2:45 am, Litchfield police arrested a driver from Paynesville for fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, careless and reckless driving, speeding, and turn signal and stop sign violations. The driver, a 13 year old boy, was taken to jail as well as a 17 year old male from Hawick who was arrested for fleeing on foot.
A 42 year old Darwin woman was arrested for being in possession of stolen property and for being in possession of meth, and 5th degree possession of a controlled substance in the presence of a child. She was arrested Tuesday night in Litchfield.
The Minnesota Department of Veteran’s Affairs and partners will hold a press conference to announce a major gift to the State Veteran’s Home project in Montevideo. Details of the private donation will be announced Wednesday December 5th at 11 am at the American Legion in Montevideo. A number of guest speakers will be on hand for the conference and a
presentation highlighting the preliminary design concepts will be shown. A 13.5 acre site at the intersection of William Avenue and County Road 15 will be the location for the new Veteran’s Home in Montevideo.
Central Community Transit will not be holding its board in December. The meeting date would fall on Christmas Day, so it has been cancelled and won’t be made up. The next meeting for the board will be on January 22nd at 10 am.
Explore Minnesota, the state’s tourism promotion office recently announced attendance figures for 2017 at major attractions and events around the state. The Mall of America continues to lead the way with 40 million people visiting last year. 9 of the top ten most attended places were in the metro, with the exception being the Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center and Park in Duluth. In central Minnesota, Sibley State Park was 2nd only to Grand Casino Mille Lacs, with Lake Carlos State park north of Alexandria 3rd most visited. We Fest made the top 5 list for the northwest Minnesota region, trailing only Itasca and Lake Bemidji State Parks.
