80 year old Lorenz Canfield of Fairfax was killed in an accident on highway 15 in Meeker County south of Kingston around 11:40 am yesterday. Canfield crossed the center line and collided with a semi driven by 56 year old Alfred Jutkiewicz of Boston, Mass. His rig rolled into a ditch and pond. He was not injured.
A 14 year old was injured last night around 7:30 pm when he crashed his dirt bike in the 9000 block of county road 9. He was riding on private land designed for off road vehicle activity. The boy had a helmet on and was with adults when the crash occurred. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.
An accident at the highway 23-highway 9 intersection on the edge of New London injured 23 year old Shante Bratsch of Marshall. She suffered non-life threatening injuries and an infant in the vehicle was not hurt. Her car was hit by a pickup that was pulling a trailer driven by Steve Simenson, age 59 of Darwin. He pulled out from highway 9 to turn onto 23 and into the path of the Bratsch vehicle, which hit the trailer. Simenson was not hurt. The accident happened around 3:15 yesterday afternoon. The intersection has seen more than its share of accidents in recent years due to distracted and impatient drivers.
The City of Willmar will hold a public meeting today from 4:30 to 5:30 pm to talk about various city hall site options. The meeting will be held at the Fire Station Training room. You’re urged to come provide input. For more info call the City Administration office at 235-4913.
There is a “Law Day” event today at the Kandiyohi County Courthouse. There’ll be a visit from a state Supreme Court Justice, free legal advice and a number of activities from 12:30 until 3 pm. Spanish and Somali interpreters will be on hand. The courthouse is located at 505 Becker Avenue Southwest in Willmar. Law day is a nationwide event to help people understand how law and the legal process and work for you and how is has contributed to our nations freedoms.
