27 year old Mario Salazar of Montevideo was killed in a motorcycle accident in Montevideo Wednesday night around 9:30 pm. His motorcycle traveled off 2nd Street across the boulevard and onto the yard of a private residence in the Black Oak Avenue area. The collision caused a small fire at the scene. Police and emergency personnel tried to revive Salazar and he was taken the Montevideo Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be done at the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka.

More lakes have been added to the Kandiyohi County “No-Wake” list due to abnormally high water. Lake Florida, George Lake and Big Kandi now have “no wake zones” within 300 feet of shore. Other no-wake lakes include Calhoun, Green, Diamond, Nest, the Crow River in New London, Andrew, Games, Norway & West Norway.

Work continues and eliminating Starry Stonewart from Lake Koronis near Paynesville. A 250 acre infestation was found in 2015. The DNR reports some success and some failure in their efforts. An algaecide treatment did not work, but a combination of mechanically pulling the weed along with the algaecide worked better with stonewart decreased to below nuisance levels. The integrated approach will be used again this summer. Starry stonewart has not been completely eradicated from any infested water in the U.S. as yet.

The Kandiyohi County Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting will be held in the Commissioners Board room at the Health and Human Services Building on June 24th at 6 pm. Property owners must have gone before their local township board prior to being at the meeting on the 24th .

Ground breaking for the new Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Hospital in Willmar will be this forenoon at eleven at 2301 Transportation Road in Willmar. Refreshments will be served afterward at the current hospital location on Technology Drive on the MinnWest Tech Campus. The new facility, a ten million dollar project, should open by June of 2020.

4 Renville County communities were recently awarded Community Impact fund Grants from the Renville County HRA/EDA. The Danube Area Athletic Club received $1000 for playground equipment and a community club house addition. Fairfax got $550 for a downtown light pole banner project. Hector received $1000 to help with the city scape revitalization project. K & M manufacturing of Renville got 1000.00 to help with site cleanup and a parking lot creation. Renville County Impact Funds Grants are awarded two times each year with deadlines of April 10th and October 10th to apply. Matching funds are a grant requirement.
