An accident Sunday morning at the highway 71, highway 9 intersection by Pete’s Surplus injured 2 passengers. Sharon Harrington, 73, of Rembrandt, Iowa and 67 year old Alfred Trenary were treated for non-life threatening injuries. The car was driven by 59 year old Curt Trenary of Estherville, Iowa. They were hit when a car driven by 26 year old Austin Harrington of Hopkins pulled out into the intersection. The two drivers and one other passenger were not hurt.

A one vehicle accident Saturday morning east of Atwater on highway 12 happened when 22 year old Levi Blanchard of Worthington, the driver, was trying to pass a slow moving vehicle, which turned left. Blanchard swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle and went into the ditch. Two passengers, 56 year old Dave Blanchard and 53 year old Mary Blanchard were treated at Rice Hospital.

A home on fire was reported around 1:30am Saturday morning on Golden Gate Dr. SE in Alexandria. The home, owned by 56 year old Mark Listrom sustained moderate damage. The front porch and entry area to the trailer home were ablaze when firemen arrived and put it out. No one was home at the time and the cause is not believed to have been intentional.

22 year old Jose Sanchez of Willmar pleaded guilty to restraining a teenager at his apartment in Willmar last year. He’ll be sentenced on the felony charge in July. In a plea agreement, a number of felony charges were dropped. Sanchez & his girlfriend, Ashley Valadez, 25, held the teen in their apartment. She pleaded guilty to a reduce charge and is on probation and is registered as a predatory offender.

Road work begins today on 19th Avenue in Willmar from County Road 5 to First Street. Milling, overlay, trail work and other improvements will be done. Traffic will be allowed through while work is going on but there’ll be lane changes and reduction. Work should be wrapped up in September.

The RCW school board meeting is tonight at 7 pm. The building proposal, contracts, and weight room membership costs are among the topics on the agenda tonight. The 7 pm meeting will be in the RCW small gym.

The Alexandria city council meeting is tonight at 7 pm. The agenda includes requests for equipment from the fire department. An update on Veterans Memorial Park; various permit requests, talk on the bonding bill for the improvement and expansion of the Runestone Community Center, and various committee reports.

The Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources has a number of volunteer openings for this summer, including tracking the loon population, turtle care, photographing wildflowers & pollinators, state trail monitoring, trailhead and trails outreach, campground hosting and more. Also, Sibley State Park is looking for a visitor Center Greeter. Training for all positions is provided with most shifts 2-4 hours long. Contact the Minnesota DNR by visiting their website.

The 2019 state trap shoot competition begins today for 315 Minnesota high schools with a total of 8,320 student athletes. Individuals and teams will compete in Novice, Junior Varsity and Varsity groups. Trap shooting will take place at the Alexandria shooting Park.

Ridgewater College has selected Trapshooting coaches for both campuses. Mike Bjork will head up the Hutchinson League. Bjork is a retired police officer, and is now a teacher in Lester Prairie where he coaches their Trap Shooting team. He is a certified firearms safety instructor. The Ridgewater Willmar campus will be led by Troy Haverly & Dean Anfinson. They also coach the NL-S team. Haverly has been trapshooting over 44 years
and is a DNR gun safety instructor. Anfinson has been in law enforcement and is a certified NRA instructor for conceal & carry and more. The state high school trapshooting contests begin today in Alexandria and run through the 18th .

The Willmar School Boards meets today at 4:30 in the board room of the Willmar Education and Arts Center. The agenda includes appointments, transfers, leave requests and resignations. Also a resolution in regards to board control of extracurricular activities, approval of the 2019-2020 original budget, a transportation proposal and committee reports. The meeting begins at 4:30 pm today.
