A hearing for 16 year old Trent Uhlenkamp of Olivia will be held on July 1 st to see whether or not he is competent to stand trial for allegedly molesting children at his mother’s day care. The day care is at their home and the 16 year old is facing 3 felony charges of 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly touching girls inappropriately. His mother, Peggy Jo Uhlenkamp, faces a gross misdemeanor charge of not reporting the alleged abuse. Her day care license was suspended last January.
More break-ins around the area have been reported. A car was broken into in Willmar on Becker Ave. SW. A purse was stolen from a car on 12th St. NW in Willmar. A pickup was broken into in the Sunburg area, and a garage, also in the Sunburg area, was broken into and items were taken.

From the BadaBing Sandwich to Blueberry key lime pie, there’ll be a lot of variety. You’ll have a chance to try breakfast potato skins, carnitas taco cones, deep fried dilly dogs. Or maybe it’s the cheesy sriracha fennel cake bites or Carolina pit smoked brisket tacos that’ll get the dust off your wallet! A body found recently in a back water area of the Mississippi River in St. Cloud has been identified as 38 year old Touy Souvannaphong of St. Cloud. A kayaker had called in the sighting of him in early June. The Stearns Co. Sheriff’s Office says the case remains under investigation.
The Willmar Fests Jr. Princess was crowned at the Block Party in downtown Willmar yesterday. 8 year old Jayden Lara wears the crown….there were no candidates for Junior Prince.
Veterans and active military personnel are being treated to a free car wash tomorrow from 7 am until noon at Donnelly’s on east highway 12. The event is being put on by the Willmar Stingers baseball team, the VFW and Donnelly’s. Coffee and rolls will be served and all who show up are asked to donate a personal hygiene item and/or socks and underwear for “the Healing Nest” & local veterans.
The BOLD Warrior baseball team won the Class A state title yesterday with an 8-0 win over New York Mills. BOLD’S Jordan Sagedahl, Hayden Tjersteeg and Luke Ryan made the all- tournament team, as did KMS team members Alex Call and Weston Gjerde. In 2A, Paynesville’s Grady Fuchs & Luke Johnson made the all-tournament team.
A number of events are taking place today during Willmar Fests 2019. The high school is the sight of the tennis tourney; the 3 on 3 basketball tournament is at Community Christian School. An Appreciation Day dance begins at 1 pm at the Community Center. The Stingers baseball game begins at 7:05 tonight at Taunton Stadium, and movies in the Park at Robbins Island get underway at 9:30 pm. Tomorrow, the fire Dept. pancake breakfast will be from 7-1. The parade downtown is at 10:30. The ambassador coronation at the WEAC building is at 3 pm, the beach party at Robbins Island begins late afternoon and ends with fireworks. The party will include a ski show, music, food and beer vendors and a kids carnival. Sunday is the “rainy weather” backup plan for the ski show & fireworks.
