According to Renville County Officials, 17 year old Trent Uhlenkamp of Olivia was found incompetent to stand trial on charges child molestation at a day care ran by his mother. Uhlenkamp, facing three felonies, was “unable to understand the process and participate in his defense” according to the judge. The next step is a study of treatment options.

An accident Sunday night at the highway 55 Stearns County road 169 intersection injured one person. 63 year old Tom Wold of Belgrade was on 169 and pulled out in front of a west bound vehicle driven by Carrell Cafourek of Albert Lea. His passenger, Rachelle Cafourek, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Paynesville Hospital. The state patrol said that Wold had alcohol in his system.

At last night’s Willmar City Council meeting, they approved a new ten year lease for the Willmar Stingers baseball team to continue using Taunton Stadium. The vote was unanimous after the addition of a “friendly amendment” to the lease, meaning that the stadium can continue to be used for non-baseball events as well.

Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra will visit Ridgewater College in Willmar Wednesday July 10th to announce a Workforce Development Scholarship Program. Malhotra will also review the opportunities it presents to Ridgewater students. During this past legislative session an appropriation was approved that added $7 million to a scholarship program for students pursuing programs that prepare students for a career in high demand sectors. Malhotra will speak on July 10th at 1 pm at Ridgewater in Willmar.

If you’ve ever thought about working at the Minnesota State Fair, here’s your chance. The 4th annual State Job Fair will be held July 10th from 4-8 pm on the fairgrounds. More than 500 fair time positions from vendors and State Fair Departments will be available. Applicants can get in line at 3 pm outside the progress center and anyone in line by 7:45 pm will be able to participate. Hourly wages of $9.86 to $11.00 an hour will be paid and workers get free admission to the fair. You’re encouraged to register on-line to help speed the process. Registration can also be done at the job fair July 10th .

The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners meet today with a presentation from the County Historical Society at ten, followed by a number of items on the agenda, including bid letting for the Diamond Lake trail project; a drug court update, 2 graduations and a drug court screening grant. Along with a number of reports and requests there’ll be a 2019 road construction update from Mel Odens. Meeting time is 9 am today beginning with the health and human services committee.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded more than $24 million for 43 infrastructure and rehabilitation projects in Greater Minnesota. The city of Willmar will receive $750,000.00 for multi-family rental rehab improvements. Sacred Heart will receive $600,000.00 for public facilities work. Cottonwood & Boyd will get $414,000.00 for housing rehab. Clinton will receive $600,000.00 for public facility improvements. Canby will receive one million, 40 thousand and 750 dollars for housing and commercial rehab work. Maynard receives $599,775 dollars for public utility work and Milan & Watson will get $784,000.00 for housing, rental housing and commercial building rehab.
