3 people received minor injuries early Sunday morning west of Spicer. A car driven by Ta-Raj Tondell Satari Benness Jr. of St. Cloud was headed north on county road 9, did not stop at the T intersection of county road 10, and went into the slough. The driver, age 19, and two 18 year old passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries. The car sustained major damage.

Yesterday morning shortly before 2:30 am, Hector Police and firemen were called to a building on fire at 401 Main Street south in Hector. The building, vacant for 29 years and scheduled to be torn down was on fire. The State Fire Marshall’s Office, after an initial investigation, said the fire was intentionally set, and a reward of up to $5,000.00 is being offered.

An accident near Ottertail city in Ottertail County has taken the life off a male. 3 people were walking south, on the northbound shoulder of highway 78 when one of then tripped and fell into the northbound lane and was hit by a vehicle headed north. The vehicle continued on without stopping. The 21 year old was from Wahpeton. No name has been released.

Drivers headed east on I-94 near Fergus Falls will encounter a lane closure today. MnDOT says the pavement in the left lane is buckling. They hope to have the problem fixed by around 6:00 tonight.

56 year old Dean Cordes of Willmar was identified as the man who lost his life last Tuesday morning in a work related accident in Willmar. Cordes, working at the Farm Service Elavator in Willmar, fell about 13 feet from a catwalk over a grain truck, hitting his head in the fall. He was taken to Rice Hospital and later pronounced dead.

28 year old Apsonom Kumo of Milan was sentenced to 90 days in a drunk driving incident that seriously injured 2 passengers. The accident happened last December near Milan, injuring Jermy Hethon and Rimency Hethon, both of Milan. Kumo registered a blood alcohol level of 0.186. He’ll serve 90 days in the Chippewa county jail and pay fines and fees of $150.00, along with restitution that has not yet been determined.

Willmar police reported last week that a gun clip was found on a sidewalk in downtown Willmar. The gun clip, with 6 bullets in it, meant for a 9 millimeter gun, was found around Becker Ave. Southwest and 3 rd Street. It was turned into the Police Department and stored away as found property.

The Willmar School board meets this afternoon at 4:30 with a number of appointments, transfers and committee reports on the agenda. The board will approve the 10 year long term facility maintenance revenue plan, expenditures and statement of assurances, and approve revised substitute rates. They’ll also discuss a potential partnership with the Southwest/west central cooperative. The meeting today at 4:30 will be held in the Willmar Education and Arts Center.

The Alexandria City Council meets in special session at 5 pm today. They’ll go over the Central lakes Apartment tax increment financing, get an update on the Bellanca Building status, an RCC update and the 2020-2024 draft capital improvement plan. The regular meeting tonight at 7 pm includes an introduction of new Police Officers, a public hearing on the establishment of a TIF district for Central lakes Apartments. Also a request to call for a public hearing concerning tax increment financing for Kinkead Apartments. City engineer Tim Schoonhoven will present a number of requests, including the 44th Ave. extension project bids and parking resolution, and a highway committee meeting.

Eastbound lanes on I-94 near Alexandria will be closed tonight from 8 pm until midnight. A detour will use highway 14 and highway 27. Beams will be hauled and set for the eastbound bridge replacement over Lake Latoka. The section of road from Garfield to Alexandria currently is head to head due to the bridge work and road resurfacing.

THE RCW school board meets tonight at 7 pm in the RCW small gym. There’ll be a presentation from Aaron Harms from U.S. Solar on a second solar garden opportunity. They’ll also go over resignations and hires, and talk about board members as employees, and look at the Superintendent Evaluation Summary. Meeting time is 7 pm tonight in Renville.
