The State Patrol reported an accident on highway 27 near Douglas County Road 1 Monday morning around 6:50 am. AN SUV driven by 29 year old Megan Vanscoik of Alexandria rear ended a construction truck driven by 58 year old Dave Reque of Farwell. He was not hurt. Vanscoik and 3 passengers, all kids, were taken to the hospital in Alexandria for precautionary evaluation.
A fire yesterday morning destroyed the Green Lake Trailer Works building on highway 23 on the north side of Spicer. Fire Departments battling the blaze included Spicer, New London, Willmar, Atwater, Belgrade and Kandiyohi. The call came in close to 7 am. The fire started in the southeast area of the building, which housed welders and torches and other material. The building is considered a total loss and the state fire marshal is investigating.
In an update from the Willmar Police Department, the woman accidentally shot Saturday night at the Super 8 Motel on South First Street in Willmar was a 68 year old from Backus. She suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was shot in the leg after a small caliber pistol was fired in the room next door. A 34 year old man from Sheldon, Iowa will be charged in the incident. He is cooperating with police.
A gas drive off resulted in a number of charges in Meeker County last week. The Sheriff’s Office was called to a business in Cosmos and after locating the vehicle, the arrested 32 year old Matt Kruize of Wendell. He has charges against him of 2nd degree test refusal, tampering in motor vehicles, theft, driving after suspension, no insurance, and disorderly conduct, along with driving off without paying for gas.
The Kandiyohi Co. Commissioners meeting today at 9 am at the Health and Human Services Building in Willmar. There’ll be a public hearing for a tax abatement request from Suite Livin’ Rentals, a number of resolutions, including the project award and sale of general obligation bonds for water and sewer revenue. Also, an agreement for Law Enforcement Services for Lake Lillian. And, a central MN. Jobs & training services annual update from Barb Chaffee.
Tonight begins the 4th season of Rockin’ Robbins, the free summer concert series and Robbins Island Regional Park in Willmar. The Green Lake Blue Grass Band starts the shoe at 5 pm, followed by “Big Toe & the Jam at 6:30 pm. There’ll be food and drink, vendors, and activities for kids as well. The Willmar Rotary club began the free concerts in 2016 and have been able to raise over $116,000.00 for park improvements.
The Kandiyohi Co. Sheriff’s Office has place a no wake restriction off 500 feet from shore on Diamond Lake. Water there is abnormally high. No other lakes currently have any restrictions.
Last Friday there was a call from a man to the Stearns Co. Courthouse of a possible bomb in the 3 rd floor bathroom in the Stearns Co. Administration Building. The building was evacuated and searched with nothing being found. The call came from 51 year old Jerry Essary of Sauk Centre. He was arrested and booked into the Stearns Co. Jail and later released pending more investigation.
