According to Yellow Medicine Co. authorities, the driver in the school bus incident Wednesday was 70 year old Brian Fuller of Renville. Fuller suffered a medical problem while driving, hit 3 vehicles, and traveled in the wrong lane on highway 212 before being slowed by police. Greg Meyer, a Granite Falls fireman, was able to get into the bus when it was almost stopped and get it into park. Fuller was taken to the Granite Falls hospital. His condition was not reported on by police.

Drivers on I-94 near Alexandria will be detoured beginning next Wednesday as work will be done at exit 100 to highway 27. Traffic will be detoured to exit 97 onto highway 114 then to highway 27. Work should be done in about one week, weather permitting.

22 year old Jose Sanchez of Willmar was sentenced to 5 years after pleading guilty to a felon in possession of a firearm. Sanchez and his girlfriend, Ashley Valadez, age 25 were accused of detaining a teen in their apartment for 2 days. Other charges were dropped against Sanchez in the plea deal.

On July 4th in Spicer, Kandiyohi Co. sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Saulsbury beach area, where someone had reported that they were pepper sprayed. While there, the deputy said that another person, a young Somali woman, had reported be sprayed as well. There is a suspect in the first incident, but not in the incident involving the Somali woman.

According to the first ever Minnesota Residential Medical Debt Survey, nearly 60% of Minnesota survey respondents received a medical bill that came as a surprise or was difficult to pay off. Getinsured, a provider of health insurance marketplace technology did the survey and recently donated $1,065,587.00 to pay off medical debt in Minnesota through a contribution to RIP, a non-profit that buys & forgives medical debt on behalf of donors. For the first time ever, annual premiums plus deductibles for a family of 4 in the state is topping $25,000.00. And, 2 person families have average premiums topping $1,000 per month.

The National Transportation Safety Board wrapped up its investigation into the January 2nd plane crash at the Appleton Municipal Airport. The board found that the crash was caused by ice on the runway. The student pilot operating the plane was on a cross-country solo flight escaped the crash without injury.

The 26th Annual Relay for Life of Kandiyohi County will be held tonight from 4 until 10:30 at Taunton Stadium. Check in and onsite registration begins at 4. There’ll be a silent auction from 4-8 pm. Luminaries sales are from 4-8. The opening ceremony is at 6, followed by the survivor lap. The Stingers ball game begins at 7:05 and after the game, the luminaria ceremony takes place followed by closing ceremonies.
