We will have to wait until later today to know whether any tornadoes touched down over the weekend. The National Weather Service is expected to have teams out surveying any damage. Several southwest Minnesota cities were under tornado warnings Saturday night such as, Heron Lake, Lakefield, and Windom in southwest Minnesota. Those cities are just north of Interstate 90 and Worthington.
Two men are safe after the sailboat they were on overturned on Big Kandiyohi Lake. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 1:20 Sunday morning as two men from Franklin slept on the sailboat. One man was able to get to shore go call for help for his friend. The friend also got to shore but had to be hospitalized no word on his condition.
The 2019 Minnesota State Fair gets underway this Thursday. Last year’s fair attendance was record setting, with a little over two million people. The Fair runs through Labor Day, September 2nd.
Heavy rains flooded a portion of Kings Highway in South Minneapolis. The road is closed between 40th and 38th streets just on the north side of Lakewood Cemetery.
Saturday’s storms had folks at the Swift County Fair running for cover. Many attendees ducked inside the building and waited for the storm to roll through. According to the Swift County Fair Facebook page, the tractor pull event was canceled due to rain, but the rest of the events went on as planned.
A driver who tried to avoid hitting a bear cub ended up in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon. According to the St Louis County Sheriff’s Office, a man who was driving a pickup on Highway 2 near Floodwood when the cub ran out into the roadway. The man quickly swerved to avoid the little bear and ended up in the path of a truck headed the opposite direction. No one was seriously injured in the accident.
Minneapolis police are investigating after a man was shot and killed at an apartment on Sunday afternoon. It happened shortly after 4pm on the 19-hundred block of First Avenue South. So far, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone who may have any information to contact the Police Department.
