One Minneapolis neighborhood association is fighting back against a plan for more city control.  Folwell Neighborhood Association officials are trying to show city officials that associations can rebuild themselves without municipal oversight.  A plan is in place to end city funding for neighborhood associations unless the groups allow the city to assume greater control over their organizations.

Three people are hurt after a distracted driver hit a pedal bar in Minneapolis.  The driver rear-ended the multi-passenger vehicle Saturday night and admitted to being distracted while driving.  A passenger in the car sustained minor injuries.  Two pedal bar passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

An adult driver and a child are okay after they escaped their vehicle just before it got hit by a train.  The car had been stuck on the tracks at Northdale Boulevard and 119th Avenue North Saturday.  The driver and child ran from the car just before it was hit by a freight train and caught fire near an empty liquefied petroleum gas tank car.  Firefighters were able to keep the blaze away from the train.  Police say the driver was following GPS and mistakenly turned onto the tracks.

New dual-left turn lanes near St. Louis Park’s Miracle Mile are drawing a mixed response.  The lanes are in place on northbound Wooddale Avenue at Excelsior Boulevard.  Some drivers love them, while others say they add more danger to already confusing intersections.  The Hennepin County Transportation Department changed the configuration last month.

A Minnesota-made podcast is offering advice to first-generation students on navigating college.  Finding Your Place was created by upperclassmen and faculty.  The podcast landed a grant through the last Shark Tank Open competition that funds innovative projects in the Minnesota State system.  School officials are working to find out if the series is successful in directing students toward campus resources.

Minnesota corrections officials are considering alternatives that would keep mothers in prison together with their children.  Advocates for incarcerated mothers point to a growing body of research that shows separation has a lasting impact on children.  Department of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell says the agency is looking at alternative release options for pregnant women and mothers of young children.

An investigation is underway after Edina police officers shot a man to death following a pursuit. Brian Quinones posted an apology on social media and live-streamed the pursuit.  The pursuit ended when officers say Quinones exited the vehicle holding what appeared to be a knife and wouldn’t drop it.

Severe storms are in today’s forecast for the Twin Cities.  The National Weather Service says there is a slight risk of a heavy downpour this afternoon in southern Minnesota, including the metro area.  The storms could include damaging winds, hail and even isolated tornadoes.  Tomorrow’s forecast will be dry, but steamy, with temperatures reaching 80 degrees.

Authorities say alcohol may have contributed to the death of a man who died after his ATV crashed in Linwood Township.  The collision happened yesterday afternoon in the 68 hundred block of 224th Avenue Northeast.  Officials claim the ATV driver left the road at the end of a cul-de-sac and hit a tree.  The 35-year-old victim was not wearing a helmet.  The crash remains under investigation.

One person is hospitalized after they were stabbed in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown neighborhood.  It happened early this morning near 14th Avenue and 5th Street Southeast.  Detectives are investigating what led up to the stabbing.  There is no word on the victim’s condition.
