Passengers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport can now use both security lines in the main terminal. The news comes in time for the busy MEA weekend, when most students across the state have time off from school. The long weekend is a popular travel time. Security lines in Terminal One were reconfigured in mid-August to accommodate construction, clogging the terminal with stressed and sometimes angry passengers.
Twin Cities property tax hikes are hitting less wealthy areas hard. Around one in six homeowners in the two cities will see a spike of more than 15-percent next year. The areas seeing the biggest increases are the East Side, North End, and Frogtown areas of St. Paul, and the North Side, Powderhorn, and Phillips areas of Minneapolis.
A proposed policy change may mean more minors who are repeatedly arrested being put in detention. The proposal is a reversal of recent juvenile justice strategies that funnel many minors into diversion programs. The effort is intended to drive down a downtown crime wave. President Trump is threatening to sue the city of Minneapolis over a 530-thousand dollar security bill. Trump’s campaign said yesterday that Mayor Jacob Frey is creating an “outlandish” bill for security to cover the costs for Thursday’s campaign rally. Minneapolis city officials told the Target Center that it would be responsible for paying the security costs, and the management of the arena allegedly tried to pass the cost to Trump’s team. The Trump campaign said in a statement that it would go to court if the city doesn’t agree to honor the contract for the rally by 11 a.m. today.
Gander Outdoors is telling employees that it’s closing down its stores in Eden Prairie and Bemidji. No closing date has been given. Gander Outdoors announced plans in September to close, sell, or repurpose nearly 40 locations nationwide while it shifts toward recreational-vehicle sales, service, and parts. The stores in Eden Prairie and Bemidji don’t sell or service RVs.
Vice President Mike Pence and his wife will be joining President Trump in the Twin Cities. Pence will visit a sign company in Lakeville Thursday ahead of Trump’s Minneapolis rally that evening. Pence’s wife Karen and President Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump will be hosting an event for the group Women for Trump at St. Paul’s Union Depot Wednesday night. The events are all taking place in districts currently represented by Democrats in Congress.
St. Paul police continue to investigate after a man who was found shot in his SUV with his son has died. Jeriko Boykin Sr. was shot while driving his SUV in the 400 block of Wabasha Street Sunday evening. His four-year-old son was in the vehicle with him and was hurt in the shooting. The shooting death is the city’s 24th homicide of the year.
A St. Paul lawyer is returning court documents alleging child abuse by more than 15-hundred offenders associated with Boy Scouts of America. Attorney Jeff Anderson says he returned the sealed documents under protest. Anderson says that not making the Boy Scouts offenders’ names public provides them with protection. A Ramsey Court District judge said Anderson lacked the legal standing to request the documents.
Attorneys say Shannon Miller and the University of Minnesota Duluth have reached a tentative agreement to settle her discrimination claims against the school. No details have been released about the proposed settlement of state and federal lawsuits alleging sex discrimination and retaliation against the former women’s hockey coach. UMD was ordered last week to pay Miller nearly two-million dollars in damages along with over two-and-a-half-million in attorneys’ fees, expenses, and interest.
A Minneapolis man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup in Anoka County. Deputies say the crash happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Bunker Lake Boulevard in Ham Lake. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured and there were no other passengers in either vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
The Minnesota Twins are out of the playoffs after getting swept by the New York Yankees. The Yankees completed the three-game sweep yesterday in Minnesota in the AL Division Series. The Yankees will face either the Astros or the Rays in the American League Championship Series.
