Willmar MN — The Willmar Rail Connector & Industrial Access Highway Project have put construction on hold until spring. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says due to the early winter weather in October, and the winter weather coming in this week, they will not be able to make the connections for the new alignment of U.S. Highway 12 this fall. MNDOT plans to make the connections to US 12 as soon as construction can begin again in the spring. County Road 55 is open and crews are working on a shorter detour for Highway 40. As we move into the winter shutdown, highway officials ask that you please remember that the area is still under construction. There will be roads that will remain closed and not maintained, as well as unfinished areas and equipment parked throughout the site, so please use caution when traveling through the area. The estimated end of road construction is now fall 2021 and the estimated end of rail and total construction will be fall 2022.
