On Thursday, March 30, the University of Minnesota will host Minnesota Sparks in Willmar, in the Life Science Auditorium at the MinnWest Technology Campus. The event brings two University researchers—who are tackling some of the area’s most critical issues—into conversation with members of the local community. The doors open at 5:30 with presentations and discussions from 6–7:15, and an open social hour at 7:15. Minnesota Sparks is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend. Registration is encouraged. Minnesota Sparks in Willmar features two University of Minnesota researchers. One is Dr. Mark Thomas, who will address Brain Plasticity and Drug Addiction: Challenges and New Hopes. He will discuss the possibility that targeting brain activity to disrupt drug craving may provide a new way forward.  Dr. Carol Cardona will host a conversation about the emerging and constant threat of avian influenza, what are we learning and where can we go from here.
